ZURISHADDAI GIRDLESTON 1749 - 1823
He was born on March 25th and baptised March 26th 1749/1750 at Baconsthorpe. He died at Kelling Jan 21st and was buried Jan 26th 1823 aged 72; LL.B. of Caius, Camb., 1775. Became a magistrate; married in London to Phoebe Maria BEETSON.She died 8th Dec 1841 aged 63 or 65 and is buried at Kelling, her will was published the 17th Dec 1841.
On coming of age Zurishaddai sold the estates at Hempstead, Baconsthorpe, and West Wickham, Kent, together with manorial rights, coast rights, advowsons, etc. Owing to certain differences between himself and his brother William he offered to sell the remainder to his next brother, Theophilus, but the offer was not accepted. He reserved Kelling for himself because of the shooting and built the present house, "The Hall," but never finished it. He was "squire" and lord of the manor and a keen sportsman.
His grave is said to have been rather separated from those of the rest of the family, as he desired to be "near his bees". He died without children, and the remains of what had been a large property came into the hands of William Ewin Girdlestone, (the son of his next brother William). William Ewin Girdlestone left, by will, the remainder to his own widow for life after which, it was to be sold, each of his sons having a single, and each daughter a double, share.
